Roached Roadster: Cleaning Up A 1979 Triumph Spitfire That Was Left In The Woods

Over my years, I’ve seen plenty of cars left in the woodlines of various locations that honestly were well beyond savable. The Monte Carlo, the Maverick, the 1950s Dodge Wayfarer that was buried in the shed covered in blackberry bushes…none of those cars were ever going to run and drive again. They were beyond hope, even by a dedicated mental case with too much money to spend. But this 1979 Triumph Spitfire looks like someone couldn’t get it running one day and didn’t bother to go get a jump-starter or a friend who understood how carburetors work. From the moment that the car was handed over and was shoved out of the edge of a woodline, it’s pretty evident that except for the tires that deflate almost as fast as they inflate, there wasn’t much to worry about.

Okay, that might be stretching it a bit. But a free car as unique as a Spitfire is worth an attempt at a clean-up, if for no other reason than a potential flip sale on down the road. AMMO NYC, the masters of vehicle detailing, got tapped to try to bring some visual life back to this neat little look at British Leyland motoring. The leaves can be dusted off once they dry. The paint looks like there might be hope. Now, if they can just figure out where that one particular smell is coming from, they’ll be set!
