Watch Some Crazy Brits Make A Mini All Wheel Drive And Turbocharged! Part 2

Watch Some Crazy Brits Make A Mini All Wheel Drive And Turbocharged! Part 2

This has to be one of the greatest build videos we’ve ever seen. Not only do these guys from Bad Obsession Motorsport have a great sense of humor, they have after all named this thing Project Binky, but also some SERIOUS talent in the fabrication department. The plan? Take an Austin Mini GT, aka a Mini Cooper to us Americans, and graft the entire all-wheel drive drivetrain and engine combo from a Turbo Celica GT into it. Thus making a Mini All Wheel Drive. This first video gives you a cool taste of what these guys are capable of, and if you know anything about Minis you’ll know that there is NO room in one for anything bigger than the tiny little 4 cylinder that comes in them. But this is no hack job, shove it in there deal, by any stretch. These guys have real talent and are putting something together that looks like the Toyota race team might have done it. I’m seriously impressed, and have only made it through the first couple episodes.

There are 8 episodes of them putting this one together so far, and we’ll bring you all of them over the next couple weeks. It’s truly amazing and super fun to watch. This is what automotive TV should be like.

Also check out some of the cool tools and fixtures that these blokes have put together. You’ll dig them and want them for your shop. I know I do.

Click the play button in the middle of the screen below to watch episode 2 of the transformation of Project Binky. If you missed Episode 1, don’t worry, it’s below that!

    British eccentricity at its best!

I hope my American buddies can get it – true lunacy transcends borders

I seriously think that smart jig has truly major potential though – that is one seriously good idea that could be made for any size car.

Wouldn’t it have been simpler just to cut the Celica floorpan to fit the
Mini shell – that method of floorpan/body swapping is becoming more and more common and saves a lot of work – what shell/floorpan and running gear combination would BangShifters like to see?

Uhm, The Celica is longer and wider than the Mini, so a floor pan swap would still require a lot of modification to make it work. Having seen all the video’s to date, i’ll just say his build plan is well thought out and brilliant.

I subscribe to this video series and it is truly an awesome sight. I viewed episode 8 finally after checking back so many times but it dropped just before the end of December. Happy Christmas! That car is going to be bad ass!

Do a search for Binky in the general discussion… I posted this there months ago. Happy New Year Chad 😉

Unlike most American shows where they show the guys doing the work and it coming out flawlessly the first time, these guys understand that NOTHING works right the first time!! 🙂

I actually get excited when I see they’ve posted a new video.

The door modification video made my HEAD hurt.
