Over 200 Horsepower Per Cylinder: Scott Forrester’s Holden Gemini Runs A World-Class Four-Banger!

In 1957, Chevrolet hit the goal of one horsepower per cubic inch from their 283ci V8 by way of fuel injection. Back then, that was a hell of a goal to achieve. But that was over sixty years ago…times have changed, technologies have advanced, and now we have monsters like this Holden Gemini. Keep this in mind: the Gemini is a T-car, which is the same as the Chevrolet Chevette. It’s running a four-cylinder Isuzu mill with a turbocharger that is shoving 50 PSI of air down the throat and the end result is massive: 839 rear-wheel horsepower. That’s just under 210 horsepower per cylinder in a car that would be a riot with 125 horsepower and some suspension tweaks! Sadly, during the dyno challenge at Summernats 31, the Isuzu mill got terminally wounded in competition but not before blasting out that heroic number.

We only got the Chevette and it’s badge-engineered cousins, and the nearly extinct Isuzu I-Mark. Neither of those two really have the curb appeal that the Gemini has. Look at it…like a shrunken Torana at the right angles. And it’s packing over 800 to the tires with a four-cylinder. If you can’t get on board with that program, we don’t know what to do for you.
