Action Video: Matt Farah Of /DRIVE Tears Down Highway 341 In A 500 HP Syclone!

Action Video: Matt Farah Of /DRIVE Tears Down Highway 341 In A 500 HP Syclone!

Have you ever seen a vehicle online, on TV, or in person and immediately thought, “This is one of the coolest things I have ever seen…Man, why didn’t I think of building it?” Admittedly I have several of those moments each and every week, but today’s, courtesy of /Drive and their review of a 1991 GMC Syclone that has been reborn as a road racer/hillclimber, cranks the Awesome meter to Eleven.

Well, at least for me anyhow, but my love for all things turbo-charged as well as vehicles that turn both left and right should be obvious by now, and the fact that it’s not only a real Syclone but a Syclone that is still powered by a six cylinder as God Himself intended is icing on the cake. Sure, you can complain about the giant wing out back and the splitter up front, but listen up naysayers: They’re both functional and are removable for street duty.

Listen, I’m not completely sold on the nickname “Psycho Syclone” either, and Farah’s need to disclose that he wasn’t wearing shoes during the test drive was a little more than I wanted to know about the guy, but don’t let that detract from how cool this truck is. It has 500 horsepower, gobs of torque, and looks mean enough to steal your lunch money given a moment’s notice.

I could go on and on about the radiator that is mounted in the rear in order to better fit the massive front mount intercooler, the stripped and roll-caged interior, the 315mm wide semi-slicks fitted at all four corners, or the beautiful noises that the Syclone’s turbo-charged six makes as as Matt Farah rips through the gears along Highway 341 (Oh yeah, it has a manual transmission and still retains its AWD system), but I don’t want to spoil the entire video for you.

Instead, let’s just say that I would do potentially unlawful things in order to borrow this truck for an Ultimate Street Car Association event or two, and I would without a doubt do many unlawful things behind the wheel of it given the chance.

So go ahead and watch the video; I’ll be off scouring Craigslist for a “gently used” Syclone for my next project…

He probably took his shoes off so he wouldn’t step on two pedals at once, I had to do that when I borrowed one of my friend’s Samauri.

Nice ride, you sure don’t see them much anymore. My 92 Typhoon makes a little over 520 rwhp, still drives like its stock. I need to add a Syclone to my fleet some day.
