I love seeing people’s reactions to things. Don’t you? Let me ask you this question: if you’re showing someone something funny…and they haven’t seen it, but you know what’s happening…is it funnier to you to see their reaction than the initial joke actually was? Maybe it’s me, but that’s the way my brain works. I like the joke, but if I see my wife fall apart laughing at the same thing, I’m laughing even harder. So that’s why I like videos like when people get to experience a “Ludicrous Mode” Tesla launch for the first time, or a ride-along like this one. You see, the young lady in the passenger seat knows this nearly 700-horsepower Ford Mustang well enough. But she has never, ever been introduced properly to it’s actual power output. She knows it’ll move out. She knows it’s prepared to race. But she hasn’t gotten the full brunt of the power.
Now, I speak from experience here: there is nothing better than taking someone who is a fast car virgin for a ride that involves foot-to-the-floor, bangshifting fun. That will never get old in my eyes. But when I’m rowing the gears, I’m focused on driving…I’m not seeing facial reactions, the reaching for an “oh, shit” handle that isn’t there, the impulsive search for an invisible brake pedal…none of that. That’s why I dig these videos. And that’s why I love watching as she loses her ever-loving mind the moment the driver goes for broke.
