It has been a while since we took you on a blazing ride around an autocross course. That’s mainly because the closest thing to an autocross at this time of the year is an ice race and half the country is literally experiencing what it would be like if the temperature of the Earth suddenly matched the temperature of Mars. But fear not. Through the internet wonder known as YouTube, we’re going ot get our swerve on, clip some apexes, and make some cones pee a little. The car we’ll be riding on is a prepared Factory Five Cobra driven by a very capable shoe. While the Factory Five cars combine the best of modern technology with the iconic lines of the original car, even they cannot defeat physics. These are light cars with lots of power and little wheelbase so it takes someone with some real acumen to sling one around like you’ll see in this video. Oversteer is something that happens like a light switch in cars like this and if you have spent any time around an autocross course, no doubt you have seen one or more guys in Cobras looping them in tire smoking fashion. This driver doesn’t do that. He dominates the course.
This is a big, long course and it allows the driver to get a pretty substantial head of steam up, especially nearing the end of the run when the dude is able to grab another gear and really give the car some gusto. This is an expansive course and we’re not sure where the event is being held that the driver is racing in. It is basically a vast concrete lake that seems to go on forever. We dig the sounds and the sights of this video. From the driver’s ginger throttle work to his wrestling the wheel, the dude had his a-game on the day this was filmed. The big honking tach mounted on the cowl has us smiling, too.
