Roadkill! Old Meets New When Harry The Tow Truck Meets Pigpen, The Junkyard GMC!

Roadkill! Old Meets New When Harry The Tow Truck Meets Pigpen, The Junkyard GMC!

Given the typical run of success that Freiburger and Finnegan have on their Roadkill adventures, we are kind of amazed that they only just now have gotten around to picking up an actual, honest tow truck. Sure, their 1973 Chevrolet C-30 crew-cab ramp truck can put in work when needed, but c’mon…who doesn’t need another heavy-duty old-school truck in their life? In this case, Freiburger’s Craigslist surfing found a 1971 Ford F-350 crew cab tow truck in Colorado and decided that he had to have it. The Ford is a homebuilt deal, from the four-wheel-drive conversion and the 460ci swap to the tow rig setup. The plan was to put a set of tires on the truck and drive home, but because of a flub at the tire dealership, they had to wait…which meant that they were treated to just how quickly Colorado’s weather can change. That means “blizzard”.

On it’s own, driving a old workhorse truck in the snow is a bit sketchy, but there is a second part to the deal: the Ford, dubbed “Harry the Tow Truck”, is going to first go to Flagstaff, Arizona to rescue the 1950 GMC truck known as “Pigpen”. The GMC is the truck that they rescued out of a junkyard and got running…mostly running, anyway…and ran for a bit before things went south and the truck left them stranded on the side of a road. The GMC is running again and it’s coming back with them, one way or another. With a homemade tow rig setup, the snow of Colorado, and the fuel mileage of a heavy-ass truck with a 460 and gears deep enough for tow truck duty, just how well do you think that Harry will do?

I watched it this morning but it is a snooze fest. Saw pictures of the tow truck months ago with/and the old 50 P/U. Nothing new. Nothing to wright home about.
