Screwing In The Water: Furze Takes His Homemade Screw Tank Swimming

Screwing In The Water: Furze Takes His Homemade Screw Tank Swimming

Everytime I see Colin Furze working on a project, I can’t help but hear the cartoonish laugh of an Evil Genius™ that has made something that surely will work. The difference between the bad guy and the Brit who has no energy exhaustion to speak of is that Furze’s inventions can and do work…and if they don’t, they will once he’s studied the problem and has made some adjustments. Which is a bit unsettling to think about, given that this is the man responsible for turning a Tuk-Tuk into the perfect vehicle to ride into downtown Mogadishu in, fire, firepower and all.

One of his latest ventures is a screw tank that has already proven itself to be useful on land. That’s a pretty cool feat, but with each driving screw looking like a pontoon, can it be buoyant? If the screws are watertight and the craft as a whole floats evenly, then yeah, it’s possible. But there’s a lot that can go wrong: the weight of the engine might leave the stern of this one-man ship squatted too close to the waterline, the torque of the screws might be enough to upset the craft, and then there is the big question of whether or not the ship or the screws will leak water in, which is a no-brainer bad thing.

Just wait…this isn’t the end of the build. He’s talking about arming this thing the next time we see it. So enjoy this last view of the screw tank as a neat little ATV build before it becomes dangerous.
