The skills, talent, technique, preparation and sheer balls it takes to drive a vehicle on two wheels for any amount of time on purpose is already something to be impressed by, but Terry Grant, a stunt driver who is in the Guinness Book of World Records 20 times over for his automotive hijinks, decided to break one of his older records by running a Nissan Nismo Juke RS up the 1.16 mile Goodwood hill climb course. His old record was 2:45, also set in a Juke, but this run was 2:10 and from the moment the two left wheels go into the air you can see the kind of near-telepathic control he has to have, keeping the cute-ute from returning to its upright and correct position and keeping the Nissan from rolling. We are honestly surprised that the tires held up the full distance, because the sidewalls scrub off of the tires quickly and if there was ever an inopportune moment to get a flat tire, this is it.
Back in the late 70’s early 80’s I was a travelling pyrotechnician, (a whole ‘nother story), but I was in Birmingham, Alabama where I was befriended by the clown for one of the thrill shows. Well we managed to get drunk, and, went back to the track too 2-wheel the clown car. Needless to say, we failed miserably, and, rolled it. We had to fess up to the head guy, forget his name, but, our punishment was to got to the junkyard , get another clown car, take the windows out, and, spray bomb it. Cost us all of 75 bucks if I remenber right. Anyway, the head guy saw we were responsilble, if misguided idiots, and, he let me ride in one of the shows. was big fun, and quite scary to ride down the race track on two wheels, but, I’ll never forget it. Oh, by the way, they were sponsered by Dodge and used crap 6 cylinder sedans. Big fun.
