Sure Is Pretty Out There: Gamblin’ Two Thrashed BMWs In Oregon

Two BMW E36s…one converted into a ute, the other a chopped-up open-roof car. The Gambler 500, the original version in Oregon. A bunch of friends bent on having a good time in the woods rallying around on fire roads and hopefully not spending half a day repairing something that makes fluffy clouds pour out from underneath that BMW roundel. Sounds like a fantastic way to spend a weekend to us. The Gambler 500 is one of those bucket list events that sooner or later, we need to do. Find a beater of a car, make sure it can handle some basic off-roading behavior and go hit the trails. I’d pick an older Lincoln Town Car, give it a lift and have a blast myself, but that’s me. Grind Hard Plumbing Co. drove the two thrashed BMWs to Oregon and decided to give it a shot.

Seeing the sun shine in the Pacific Northwest might throw you off a bit, so let’s explain: it’s summer, and even the PNW gets some sunlight during the summer months. It does happen, I’ve lived there enough to know. Scenes of dusty, gravelly roads with sunlight filtering through evergreens are what make that region of the country so appealing to visit…the natural beauty is astonishing there, and you better like nature, because on a trip like Gambler, chances are good that you’ll be enjoying the view for a while every now and then…
