Best of 2020: Digging Out An Old Ford Cement Mixer From The Grasp Of The Canadian Cold

Best of 2020: Digging Out An Old Ford Cement Mixer From The Grasp Of The Canadian Cold

Mark my words, if I am anywhere in the world that has a frost layer that can be measured in inches, I am not a happy human being. I’ll roast my ass off in the desert before I freeze my bits in some snowy, frozen hellscape. And don’t give me the bit about dressing in layers or anything like that…if I dress in layers I start looking like the Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man from Ghostbusters and have all the usefulness of a damp rag thrown out into the arctic breeze. Added bonus, once I do start working in the cold, I sweat…and those layers turn me into a meat popsicle, which defeats the purpose. About the only thing more unhappy than me in the cold is a diesel that has been sitting outside for a bit of time. Nothing says “hard starting” quite like properly cold weather and a diesel that is more than ready to do absolutely nothing until maybe April.

In this case of this ancient Ford Louisville concrete truck, it’s been down ten freaking years. And it’s completely buried in permafrost. What’s going to wake this thing up? The Ether Bunny’s entire supply of Night-Night Spray, tons of propane to nuke the frost down, a solid old truck that is down to freaking work regardless of your plans, a couple of friends who have a bit of questionable decisions in them, and sheer determination. That last part is going to come in handy when you’re backing the old pickup to where the bumper is touchin’ the back of the prize, getting ready to make Violent Jerk #47, hoping that this time you don’t bend the holy hell out of the frame.

Seriously, pour one out for that Ford crew-cab…that thing puts in work!

LANGUAGE WARNING: Zip Ties n Bias Plies video…That means Rated “R” for pervasive profanity and colorful colourful cussing throughout. Nevermind the kids, be careful around sensitive adults and those with health conditions.

For any of you who aren’t familiar with Princess Auto – it’s Canada’s version of Harbour Freight, but 10x better and bigger. If you’re feeling down, go hang out at PA for a couple hours and you’ll cheer right up. It’s a man store.
