Watch The 1998 Four Wheeler Top Truck Challenge: Killer Event And Its When The World Met Quagmyr!

The Four Wheeler Top Truck Challenge was one of the coolest magazine competitions that ever existed and it introduced the world to some cool trucks over the years. It was basically Drag Week for off-roading before stuff like the Ultimate Adventure showed up. Readers would vote on the trucks that they wanted to see compete at the Hollister Off Road Park in California and the competitors would subject their trucks to a brutal battery of contests to see who’s rig would reign supreme. The first one of these things as held in 1997 and the trucks were laughably stock. A guy with a nearly bone stock TJ Jeep finished second. By 1998 the trucks had begun to advance rapidly and that would be the hallmark of Top Truck. Wild rigs.

It was in 1998 that perhaps my personal favorite pickup truck of all time appeared. The rig from Wisconsin was known as Quagmyr and it was freaking bad ass. A square bodied Chevy truck with a fiberglass removable bed, a nitrous injected big block, and the kicker. It had like 37″ tires in the front and freaking 48″ lugged tractor tires in the back! It was this incredible kind of off-road pro street look that I had never seen before and after reading the story in the magazine as a freshman in college I beat up my roommates for a loan and ordered the VHS tape of the event just to see and here the truck in motion. You get to see it right here!

The event was apparently broadcast on ESPN2 as that’s where the whole crew covering the thing came from and they have ESPN 2 shirts and microphone flags on. Let’s just say that the broadcast crew aren’t exactly truck experts.

This s a fun watch! All of the trucks are cool and completely different as well.
