Every year, when it’s getting close to the first week in November, you’ll start to hear a lot of talk about “the SEMA crunch”. What it means is that for the past year or so, a lot of people who might have been building something to bring to the show suddenly realize two things: the deadline is shrinking and there is a ton of work still to go before their ride is anywhere near ready to be put out on the floor of the show. When that happens, every reality TV car show script you’ve ever seen becomes a real-life event: there’s only a couple of weeks to get things done, and if anything goes wrong the whole deal has probably gone very, very south. For the past few months Mike Finnegan has been building an absolutely psychotic Placecraft drag boat, complete with a twin-turbocharged Sonny Leonard mill. He’s made no bones about the fact that he’s genuinely scared of this thing, and since drag boat racing has been one of his major loves, he’s gone all-out in completing the monster. But when Holley offered up a spot at their section of the show for “Game Over” to be featured, that meant that Finnegan had to get his rear in gear and get to work finishing up every little detail. In person, “Game Over” looks every bit of a five-year build. Here’s the video to prove otherwise, complete with time-lapse videos of the graphics being hand-painted on and his friends and neighbors thrashing to get the boat and trailer out the door and on it’s way to Holley:
Hope to see it on the water…not over or under! 🙂
Looks like SEMA has become a complete circus act, with all the clowns and useless crap you need for great lunkhead theatre.
Another place to stay away from.
