The Green Hornét Returns! Did You Miss This Nitrous-Assisted AMC Hornet?

It’s been a minute since we’ve heard a public peep out of Jacob Davis. Does the name ring a bell? You might have seen him on Mike Finnegan’s channel, or maybe read some of his work when he was at Hot Rod. You might even remember his 1972 American Motors Hornet Sportabout wagon that his boss dubbed “the Green Hornét” (pronounce: horn-AYE). This car has had nitrous thrown at it bottle after bottle, it’s a one-tire-fire monster, it’s running a brake setup whose parts listing resembles a junkyard’s pick list for the day, and it’s just about dead. When he rebuilt this thing a while ago, he decided to see just how far an AMC 258 could go. He went several miles beyond OK…who direct-port injects nitrous into any 1970s AMC that isn’t an overbuilt Javelin or AMX?…and it’s racked up the miles over the years. It’s even made the Cannonball run. That’s what makes this car cool.

But then there’s a bit of a problem. He found the limit to what an AMC six can tolerate. There’s some unhappiness within that engine, and it’s just about time to retire the engine for something much, much more interesting. What’s the plan? And will the six last long enough to do at least one more peg-leg burnout before it’s retired, or will it be sent to Valhalla in a proper fireball?
