This project sure is fun to watch. There is something refreshing about seeing one guy, all by himself, building a car using limited tools and basic but well polished skills. I’ve even learned a few things from this one that I never expected to. One thing I want those of you watching at home and dreaming about your next welding project to pay close attention to is his pre-welding ritual of practicing the welding motion for each joint.
I learned this a long time ago, but have gotten lazy about it since I don’t weld as often as I used to. Lately though, since starting to watch this series, I’ve taken the time to also do the practice run. It is an invaluable habit to get into, because you will figure out that bad spot before you are actually welding. 90% of the time, the way that you think you should have your hands and the torch head traveling is correct, but the other 10% will find you part way through a joint and having to stop to reset your position. Use this tip!
