This week’s parting shift isn’t violent, exceptionally powerful, or overly complex. Instead it is just plain cool. This video features a very nice 1959 Chevy Bel Air with a 283 Power Pack engine, dual exhaust, and a three speed manual trans with overdrive. There’s not a floor shifter in sight as all the action happens on the column.
Maybe we shouldn’t admit this in public, but we’ve never driven a car with a manual transmission shifted on the steering column. It seems like something we need to do, if only to appreciate the simplicity of a floor mounted stir stick!
This big Chevy is totally cool and the 283 seems more than up to the task of moving it down the road!
