There’s nothing cooler than a full-boogie barge with a stick box. This in-car video, taken at Atco Dragway in New Jersey shows a really beautiful 1964 Impala race car getting hammered on the strip by a flat footed racer. The car sports what looks like a full stock interior, roll bar, and a five speed transmission. We’re not sure what make and model or trans is getting beat on here, but it seems to shift pretty darned good going down the strip.
The video shows a couple of runs from the in-car perspective. It seems to us that the car pulls the front end a little on the launch and runs somewhere in the 11s in the quarter mile. We think that this is a street legal car because of the detail level in the interior, the fit and finish of the transmission into the stock console, and the general pristine condition of the big Impy.
The throws are pretty long and the driver certainly gets a little English on the shifts. A big car apparently requires a big arm on the shifter! Row baby, row!

Better brush up on your lights!
Likes to make sure he’s in neutral down at the shutdown area, doesn’t he ?
Big trannys don’t need long handles… Had a 11″ handle from a ’55 Chev on my “Stonecrusher” in a ’68 HEMI Roadrunner.. Just like a toggle switch!
Might wanna cinch those belts down a bit, lotta slack when he was pushed back in the seat.
Not sure what ratios are in there but he wasn’t in third or fourth very long.
Not all that much RPM there and seems to short shift in a gear or 2?
I made this video 3 years ago the car was running high 10’s. the Vette was running 10’0s and the Mustang was running high 9’s. The car is driven on the street with a electronic fuel injected small block and a 5 speed it weighs 4100 lbs and has been in the 9’s this past year. If you saw this car in person you would be impressed with the detail and perfect stance. I’m a Mopar guy and I love this car that’s how nice it is.
2 nice passes man beautiful car When I drove my Muncie 4 sp car I had the same habit, of jiggling the neutral gate all the time. Not sure why we do it, just do. Who cares.
