It’s visually rough, partially cooked, plenty rusty and it is freaking awesome. I don’t care that it’s a four-door, that most of the car is “young secretary” blue, or that it’s got Ford Ranger wheels on it. I don’t care one bit. This 1967 Ford Fairlane 500 four-door is everything I would look for in a moonshiner’s car: room, power, and the ability to be driven just about anywhere. Is it a true ‘shine car? Nah…the 302 doesn’t sound like it’s got enough power to be able to easily evade the cops, but it sure sounds good through the glass packs, and the suspension is pretty tame and car-like, so romping through the woods Dukes of Hazzard-style is probably out of the question too. But whatever. There are four speeds and three pedals, that noise is fantastic, and I’d be in heaven roaming the wide-open areas of road-runner country in the Southwest in it. After all, this Utah-based Ford was built for those wide-open stretches of asphalt. Imagine chasing the sun in this beauty!
I don’t think there’s much call for moonshine in Utah so this beauty is just about 100% perfect. Although I would fit an FE or even a Coyote and a 5 or 6 speed transmission and maybe some stiffer dampers.
Gimme!
Yea a FE with a 6 speed would be a riot in that car
actually, these work pretty good in the woods–i had one in my youth, and like pretty much all my rides at the time, wound up doing silly stuff in the woods quite a bit—mine had a 289 and a auto, but coupled with enthusiasm, and a certain disregard for the laws of self-preservation,it was quite entertaining—with the wide ratio 4 speed this one has,it’s more of a road car….
Back in the 80’s I picked up a few car from Pennsylvania and everyone of them had glass packs. When I heard this car run, it brought back bad memories of the hideous mufflers. For people still using them, don’t! Put on some mufflers that actually sound good because glass packs don’t.
