This LS-Powered German 1929 Ford Rat Rod Drift Machine Is Utterly Bad Ass

This LS-Powered German 1929 Ford Rat Rod Drift Machine Is Utterly Bad Ass

We almost had to pull the Roberto Duran ,”No Mas!” line yesterday in regard to this video of a bad ass German drift hot rod. We got emails, texts, and phone calls on this thing, so for the multitude of you that make up the BSNS (BangShift News Service) thanks for the tips! Before we first hit play on this gem we were expecting to see some dude wailing around like a lunatic in an old rickety hot rod trying to drift with the professionals and looking sloppy doing it. Boy, were we wrong! Fact is, the car you are about to see was built to be a drift competition vehicle, even though it has an old school solid axle in the front of it. You can see the driver and passenger waving and stuff during parts of the run and it sure seems like they are a ways back in the car for balance purposes. The rod does not lean, sway, or otherwise look anything like a half way out of control old car. The guy driving is apparently a former European drifting champ and this is his car. The work together very well as you’ll see him slide and spin the machine around a course. This looks like some sort of a freestyle deal or exhibition appearance. Either way, it is neat to see a hot rod doing what this one does.

The car is powered by an LS-engine, has weed burner style shorty headers, and the previously mentioned beam axle up front. We were trying desperately to see what the rear suspension is but there is only circumstantial evidence of a solid axle and four link back there judging by some components which appear to be visible. Given the chance to change a couple things, the scoop on the carb would go and we’d get some Rocket Racing Wheels on it for a more vintage appearance while keeping the modern performance and tire size. Other than that, this 1929 Ford is perfect. We’re not sure we have ever seen a straight axle car with that much steering angle. Not sure how they pulled it off but obviously it works awesome!

We look forward to more video of this car beating the stuffing out of the “typical” drift cars that we’re all used to seeing from foreign shores. Imagination and creativity win again!

You can get a TON of steering angle out of a solid axle; I’ve seen some speculation that drifters might try dirt track solid axles, but so far it hasn’t materialized. This might change that.

    Hello all

and thx for sharing our video.

My Name is Patrick and i´m the mechanic guy from the driver of this monster, named also Patrick and i want to give you a few more infos about the car named “Rodney” and the driver Patrick Becker …

Ok, first the driver and owner. Patrick Becker is a famous drift champion here in germany. The last years he drove a 240hp Opel Kadett C Coupe and he won many challanges, on short tracks and also on large tracks with entry speed´s up to 130 mls. He was a multiple winner and champion of the german IDS and the german gymkhana the last years….

…but the rivals doesnt sleep and it was time for more horsepower and more attention and nothing was near, than build a “Driftrod”. In our Magic Motors Speedshop we build classic rod´s and trucks and we are experienced with these rides. The most of the details are written, the rear suspension is a four link with panhard bar and anti sway bar and adjustable coil over on a 33 spline ford 9″ with a detroit locker. The driveshaft is very short, about 1.7ft short and in front of these is a tremec tr6060 race transmission with a 7.25 3 disc clutch.

In this winter we need to install a sway bar in front and we need to wide the front axle after the front suspension, to get some more steering angle. Oh and of course, we need a need set of new wheels and the “Rocket Racing Wheels Igniter” would be an excellent choice. Maybe Rocket Racing read this and would send us a set 😉

To end, we are a 2 guy drift team and we finance all of our stuff and all the races from our own money and our hard work and its nice to see, that all you guys lave what we do. We have fun and you hoefully have it also.

Thanks Patrick and Patrick from Germany

Please excuse my written english, it would be better from day to day 😉
