We have been harping for a long time on the idea that drag racing is not just something that happens between the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. There are strips on every continent aside from those areas uninhabitable by man. Take this awesome and wild video from Thailand. Filmed at one of the neatest named drag strips we have ever heard of in the form of Bangkok Drag Avenue. One of the most popular vehicles to be races in that part of the world is a 125cc scooter. These “125 sprints” are insanely quick for what they are. Scooters are vital means of transportation for many people in that neck of the woods so it makes sense that there would be strong interest in hot rodding them to see who has the quickest one of the bunch. We’re talking 125cc scooters that can nearly run into the 10s quarter mile. No joke. Also popular are diesel pickups. Not the massive hulking diesel trucks we have here in the USA but more like Chevy Colorado sized machines with 3.0L (or thereabouts) Duramax diesels.

In this video you’ll see some neat footage form Bangkok Drag Avenue that depicts the scene at the track (which looks kind of cool). The place is packed to the rafters with fans and racers. One thing we don’t quite get is the couple of times we see a mass of these scooters heading down the track at the same time. We’re not sure if that is a pre-qualifying ritual or perhaps they just allow the guys to make some pulls so they can tune the bikes? We’re not sure. Anyway, the main event comes during the nights and it is a match race between a diesel pickup, which looks bad ass versus one of these captain insano 125cc scooters.

There are people wall to wall behind the line, in the stands, etc. The bike and the truck are racing heads up, pro tree, first to the finish line wins. To say that this was a close race between two of the most divergent types of vehicles we have ever seen on the track together would be an understatement. The smoke belching hot rod truck and the fly swatter looking scooter. As you’ll see from the scoreboards which document the finish as the vehicles streak down the track, both of these combatants brought the thunder to the starting line.

Worldwide there has to be more people participating in drag races (no matter the form or the length) than in any other motorsport and probably by a factor of 10. That’s freaking cool if you ask us. This whole scene looks straight out of the movies…and the ending is too!
