Yesterday we brought you an amazing video on the Pure Vision “Martini Mustang” made by the crew at Petrolicious and today we’re back with another of their films, this one profiling Bob Sirna and his spectacular Mercedes 300SL which he races at Bonneville. This video is bittersweet to me. Why? I hunted for Bob for most of the week at Bonneville this year with no success. The place is so vast and people are moving on different schedules and essentially every time I zigged, he zagged. Seeing and hearing the car move under power is awesome and Bob’s view of what he is doing with it trumps all.
We love when he talks about how having cars like his sitting in museums does them more harm than what he is doing to his and frankly we agree 100%. There have to be lots of people who think that he’s killing an iconic car or something lame like that, but the fact is that these things were built to haul ass. Stirling Moss drove one like a man possessed in Italy, winning one of the most iconic races of his career. Lots of gentleman racers here in the states thumped them in sports car competition back in the day, and yet so many now own them only to leave them sitting in solitude in the corner of some dark building somewhere. Screw that.
Bob Sirna, you rule and so does this video.

need in car and more motor noises! Big livin…
He should bring that car to Pebble Beach just to piss off those people!
That’s what I was thinking.
What’s biter sweet for me is that Bob was unable to get the car sorted back when he had US automotive legend John Fitch driving it . A 300SL Classic and … a classic American automotive icon driving it setting a record …. now that would of been classic for certain had it happened

Seems like a genuinely nice guy with a great attitude and a COOOL car.
Good to see it getting used and he seems to be having a ball.
As far as I know he is right – when we go they are not going to dig two holes.
(one for you and one for you money/cars/bikes )
This attitude is so refreshing compared to the show ponies and trailer queens that I see around the automotive world. If you can’t drive your car the way it was meant to be driven then what is the point of it? I applaud him for giving it the beans down the salt flats.
