Wheelstanders rank as our favorite drag strip exhibition attractions. Sure, the jets are cool and put on a great show, but damn if we aren’t caught up in the idea of steering a car with the back brakes at more than 100mph. We got an e-mail from the owner of a wheelstander, but this thing is like nothing we have ever seen. A golf cart, powered by a 340cc Yamaha engine, it’ll go 50mph on the back tires all the way down the strip. 

This may look easy, but we’re 100% sure that Daryl Arnold is working the brakes gingerly while the little cart hauls ass down the strip. With such a narrow track width and little weight, the cart must be very twitchy and we’re guessing a sudden move, either way on the brake would result in instant barrel rolls.

Daryl told us that he’s been a drag racer for more than 30 years and always wanted a wheelstander. A full size job was out of the budget, but he did the BangShifty thing and put this piece together to get his fix anyway. We think it is neater than hell and pretty fun to watch, especially in the night time video where it is spewing fire works and pyrotechnics on the way down the track!
