The M35 family of trucks that have been serving the military for decades certainly do not get the amount of love that the little WWII-era Jeeps get with respect to their vital role in the service, but these big guys have been doing yeoman’s work since 1951. They’ve been powered by a bunch of different engines, but their basic design, totally beefy construction, and 6×6 traction have remained a constant for more than 50 years.
These trucks are cool for their looks, farm tractor like power, and the fact that they often come up for government auction sale for stupid short money. Honestly, if we knew that we’d be able to actually get away with parking one of these monsters at our home without our wife abandoning us, we’d be on it.
The trucks, despite their big size and air over hydraulic brakes do not require a CDL to operate because their GVW is below the 26,001lb limit that requires the special license. That means you too could be yanking stumps, mud bogging, and “speeding” around at the top speed of 56 mph.
Here’s all the ways you can have fun by scoring one of these gentle giants from a surplus auction.
