The Hot Rod Magazine staff has been cranking out some cool video content from the hours and hours that were shot during their Drag Week adventure in September. This time they’ve dropped a new episode of the Finnegan and Frieburger show called Roadkill. Staffer Elana Scherr and some disfigured guy that looks a lot like me also appear in this video a time or two. The side trip that Freiburger and I took to the tiny and very rustic Cedar Creek Dragway in Texas is shown. The owner of the place Danny Hux has been running it for some 30 years and is very happy to survive as an outlaw track that is primarily attended by “guys starting out”. His small facility stands in the shadow of the mighty Texas Motorplex and has not suffered badly because of it. An outlaw track that is a little frayed around the edges, Cedar Creek embodies the simple and hard-nosed history of the sport that was literally crafted at facilites like this one. Oh, did we mention that the dude has his own personal junkyard attached and we climbed all over it, too? That was a good day!
Outside of the small strip you’ll see tons of great racing action, interviews with drivers, some good old pit thrashing, and as much Drag Week that the dudes and dudettes could jam into a half hour show. We’re waiting with excited anticipation on the dates and tracks for Drag Week 2013. Stay tuned here for news about next year’s event as soon as it breaks!
