The marketing made it seem like the world was watching on New Years Eve when Travis Pastrana jumped a rally Subaru 269 feet onto a barge anchored in Long Beach harbor, a distance record for rally cars. But in the days before that, Johnny Greaves had that number beat by 32 feet, setting the record for the longest 4×4 jump. The video is below.

The interesting thing about this deal is that Travis Pastrana was sponsored by Red Bull, and Greaves is sponsored by the competing Monster Energy. Red Bull had tons of hype and a huge audience. Monster had a small crew at an off-road ranch. Pastrana crashed his car into a retaining wall. Greaves lands his Toyota Trophy Truck like it’s no big deal, and does it three or four times. Greaves’ truck also sounds cooler, and watch the rooster tail as he lays down the power in the dirt.
