It’s the time of year when water turns solid, and that means the river in Merrill, Wisconsin, at Council Grounds State Park has become a frozen 1/8-mile drag strip. The Merrill Ice Draggers have been at it since 1966, and yesterday was the first day of the racing season on the icy river. And, yes, they are racing cars and dragsters, not snowmobiles or anything reasonable like that.
These racers run regular bracket cars and street cars on the ice using tires that are studded with drywall screws. Many of them really haul the mail. This is even better than the dirt drags we showed you last week.
