Best of BangShift 2013: Watch The 12V71 Powered Cornfield Corvette Big Rig Run 13s At the Strip And Tear Down The Road!

(Editor’s note: The sweet sounds of a 12 cylinder turbocharged Detroit Diesel are unmatched in any realm. This truck is BOSS) – There are many things to love about the videos below. Firstly, the big rig that stars in them is an old International Transtar known as the Cornfield Corvette and secondly, it is powered by a seriously hot rodded twin turbo 12V71 Detroit Diesel that is supposedly making something like 2,000hp. The truck is blazingly fast, running 13.70 at well over 100mph down the drag strip in the second video. The transmission in the truck is an Allison automatic, hence the sound of it heading down the strip without any letting up for gear changes.

While the drag strip run is impressive, the first video of the truck on a rural back road making a couple of “fly by” runs really had the hair on our neck standing up because of the sound that awesome 12-cylinder Detroit makes when it is up on the boost and in the top reaches of its (admittedly limited) RPM range. There’s awesome noise and then there is the AWESOME NOISE created by this coal rolling monster. We’re not 100% sure how the driver actually sees anything with both hood mounted stacks barfing huge quantities of black smoke almost directly into the windshield, but then again, that’s not really our concern.

These videos make us crave something really freaking big that is really freaking fast!

One of these in a Diesel streamliner would be killer.

To be honest the idea of almost any V12 makes me a bit weak in the knees but the shear brutality of a 12V71 is very cool.

Was that 127 on the trap speed? Doesn’t really matter, this thing is suhweet! Sounds like a seriously pissed buzzin’ dozen
