Video: Watch A Truck Tug Of War Come To a Flaming Halt In Florida

Like the rock buggy we showed you earlier, tug of war competitions starring giant trucks are a southern creation. These events happen with regularity in central and southern Florida, often times in conjunction with mud bogs, hill-n-hole races, or just big truck gatherings with guys and girls romping through the swamp. The competition is intense and as you’ll see in this video, it is hard on parts!

These guys are way more serious than a couple of buddies hooking their half tons together in a parking lot. Sometimes the  pads that the trucks are on get treated with VHT for maximum stick. Competitors will run huge, aired down drag slicks for the best contact patch and traction, and the trucks are mostly on the level of the monsters you see on television with huge tractor tires and motors to go with them.

In this video a Bronco with four drag slicks takes on a truly massive Dodge Ramcharger equipped with tractor tires. In watching these films we’ve often thought about the sheer strain placed on axles, universal joints, driveshafts, and transmissions. The axles and driveshafts seem to live longer than the transmissions, especially in the footage below. As you’ll see the two trucks are fighting to a dead heat when all of a sudden a failure in the Ramcharger causes a massive fireball to engulf the truck however briefly.

This brings an automotive context to a “fight to the death”!
