There was lots of racing around the country this weekend, especially on the drag front. There was the Throwdown at T-Town where we live broadcasted, there was the Dutch Classic in Pennsylvania, and the Shakedown at E-Town just to name a few. The Shakedown had some serious thrills and spills over the course of the weekend with Paul Major’s fire and this wreck that happened during the Heavy Street class .
Roger Sterling was making a lap in his late model GTO bodied machine when it got super loose on the top end and cross the track, missing his opponent by an amazingly thin margin while both were hauling down the track. The good news is that this was not a two car wreck. The bad news is that Sterling’s GTO was essentially destroyed in the ensuing violet crash. The car rolled, smashed the wall, and eventually came to a stop on what was left of the wheels and tires. Reportedly, Sterling was OK after the wreck but it sure was a scary one.
The fall is drag racing’s best time around the country because cooler air and hard hooking tracks make for super fast laps and records. The downside is stuff like this which stinks for both the racer and the track. We’re sad to see this car get mangled but happy that today’s stringent safety standards keep drivers safe in horrifying situations like this.

holy cow, even having read that they didn’t collide, I expected them to connect…wow glad he was able to walk out of it.
