First off, everyone involved in this awful crash is OK and has since returned to racing. We lead with that because when you see this clip from the Lucas Oil flat track motorcycle race on the famed Indy Mile, you’ll think people are dead. They’re not, trust us on this. This is the type of crash where all the stars line up and the result is completely spectacular.
The two riders involved are Nichole Chezas and Chase Sconyers. You’ll see Chezas riding in the front third of the pack when they enter a turn at WOT. Her bike washes out from under her and bother her and the bike slide out and crash hard into the wall. Chezas stays up by the wall, but her bike literally bounces off of it and slides right back into a tightly packed group of riders. Chase Sconyers is at the exact wrong place at the exact wrong time as the wayward bike ends up directly in front of him as he is hard on the throttle off the corner. He hits the bike with massive force and launches skyward. The impact was so hard that Sconyers motorcycle is literally broken in two. He flies through the air as well, the tomahawking motorcycle narrowly missing him as they both crumple back to Earth.
What’s scary is that int he cloud of dust and debris, you cannot tell if one or both of the pinwheeling bikes has landed on Sconyers. As we said at the beginning, he was fine and both riders are back on the circuit in active competition. We’re pretty sure this wreck would have cured any addiction we had to this type of racing if we were involved like Sconyers was!
