Our big gallery of photos from Maple Grove’s 50th Anniversary race got a ton of attention because Joe Grippo did a great job shooting them and because the race had a 100% awesome line up of mechanical talent. From Frank Hawley driving the Chi-Town Hustler to the rest of the nostalgia nitro floppers, alky funnies, fuel altereds, and sportsman action, this was a match race fitting the historic Reading, Pennsylvania track’s legacy. Few drag strips have been open for as long and as successfully as Maple Grove Raceway and their management pulled out the stops to celebrate their 50th birthday.
Mark and Dawn Hovsepian were at the track photographing and filming the day and night racing action. We’re thinking that a kick ass DVD will be on the way, but Dawn edited together a three minute sizzle reel of action that is a joy to watch for drag racing fans, especially those with funny car fever. It is not often you get to see Dale Pulde and Frank Hawley slugging it out on the strip like they did in the good old days of the 1970s and 1980s but fans got that rare treat at da Grove and you can to by clicking below.

Why doesn’t everyone do 1,000 ft burnouts like the Tiki Warrior? Pretty amazing how they come all the way from Oregon. Great car guys! Great job.
