Watch An Opel Speedster Wreck Hard on the Nurburgring in Germany – Video

Germany’s Nurburgring has been in the news lately because poor management and awful financial decisions have left it nearly bankrupt. People from all corners of the world have been freaking out about the future of the facility that they are far more likely to traverse via video game controller than in a car, but we get it. Despite all of the crappy news, the place is still open to anyone who shows up with a few bucks in their pocket. As proven in this video, lots of people show up with more car than they have talent and their quest to be Jackie Stewart for a moment ends badly.

The car we see crashed in this video is an Opel Speedster, which is basically an uglied up and cheaper version of the Lotus Elise. The cars were sold from 2000 to 2005 and had turbo Ecotech power available by the end of their run. According to everything we have read, they are a cool poor man’s version of the Lotus and even though few of the parts swap back and forth, the basic chassis architecture is the same.

We don’t see this driver initially lose it, but we’re thinking he got nerfed by another amateur driver with more car than brains. The section that the Speedster gets loose on is a straightaway so something interesting must have happened. The end result of that something is a damned hard hit on the wall seemingly made worse by the driver’s panicked actions when he lost control.

Press play and watch how the wheat and chaff are separated out on the ‘Ring!

there’s no other cars near it, so I don’t think it was “nerfed” by another driver. But I’m thinking all that graffiti on the track has to affect traction.

I’ll guess he came in too hot into that corner, got off into the grass and just over corrected.

I would like to see the Buford Chevy project take a lap at the ring. Then the wheat and chaff really would be separated in short order.
