We’re late on the draw to share this latest episode of Roadkill with you. There’s just been so much content flying around that we lost the boys and their ramp truck aided quest for Bonneville records until now. As this episode was largely filmed during SCTA Bonneville Speed Week, Chad and I were poking our heads in on the Turks, Finnegan, and Freiburger to see how things were going. As you’ll see in the video they were going about as smooth as 80-grit for some parts of the week. In Roadkillian fashion, the guys had to wrench on their ramp truck a couple of times, Finnegan got some junk in his eye and needed to spend the night in a hospital, and ultimately they guys threw the kitchen sink at chasing down a record.
You’ll see a scene where the car is in impound and they’re working on it to prepare for a record run the next morning. I caught up with Freiburger and Turk that afternoon as they were wondering aloud if they had a chance against the dude in the Firebird that was running in their same class. Both of them thought that they’d need more suds to hang with what that car is capable of, so that is what they did. You’ll have to watch the video to see the results.
One last note. This is a really good account of what it is like, time-wise on the salt. Yes, you are there for days on end, but when you get there at sunrise you look around and think, “This is going to be an awesome long day!” Then seemingly 20 minutes later you are in a car with the sun going down as you drive off the salt. That may actually accelerate if you are a race team struggling to get your stuff setup and rolling like these dudes were.
