This right here is what a rock star looks like. You are going to watch Jim Kramer attack a car crushing course, pull a sled, and the do something we have never seen anyone else do before. Kramer is a hall of fame monster truck racer, and our favorite driver of Bigfoot ever because of stuff like this. He knew how to wheel the truck like a boss and he was also all about putting on a show for the fans. Make no mistake about it, while that truck is just idling along in creeper gear, it could totally kill Kramer if he makes a mistake while climbing under, over, and on the big blue Ford.
This was right at the tail end of the “bye run” racing era of monster trucks. The side by side competition that we know today was born a little later in the year at the Louisiana Super Dome in New Orleans (and event that Bigfoot won) and it changed everything. Kramer is “racing” in this video but he’s running the same straight course the other trucks did and shooting for the best time out of everyone. The side by side stuff changed the dynamic and made the already healthy crowds completely explode.
It does totally suck that monster trucks don’t go sled pulling anymore. We’re not really sure why that practice died out but it was always one of the most fun things to hear these awesome trucks at WOT with a load on their back hauling the sled. As you will see here, horsepower was not the issue and Kramer does a heck of a job. Was this thing weighted like it would have been for say 7,200lb modifieds? Hell no. Do we care? Hell no, it was just fun to see the trucks work.
Nearly 35 years ago…jeez we’re old.
