This is literally one of the coolest drag races we have ever seen! BangShift reader Arlid (who hails from Norway) tipped us off to this video from Sweden that features six minutes of action from what looks to be a nostalgia drag race held on a giant frozen lake. Picture the HAMB drags on ice and you are there!
You’ll see some awesome gasser style cars, big lead sleds, classic trucks, and a bunch of little motorcycles that sound like they are powered by weed whacker engines. Oh, there is also a guy that makes a run down the course on a wheel chair that is powered by a gas engine. Due to the fact that we do not speak Swedish we have no clue about the details, specific location, rules, speeds, attendance, or anything else of relevance. That does not stop us from loving the hell out of the event and the video though!
Do they do this anywhere else in the US aside from Merrill, Wisconsin? If not, BangShift should pick up the slack and make plans for the winter of 2013. It looks like way too much fun to hammer the throttle and launch rooster tails of ice as you speed down a billiard table flat course!
Press play and watch the winter fun in Sweden!
What scares me is I think many years in the future American hotrodders will have to pay “out the wazoo” to buy our old iron back.
I am comforted in the fact that every piece of old iron that gets shipped to Norway or Sweden, or Finland, etc… gets built.
Or restored.
Or hotrodded.
Or raced.
None of ’em sit behind the woodshed under a tattered tarp for 30 years rotting into the ground as we “Americans” think to ourselves “I’ll fix it up someday…”
Those dudes get it done!
