If you have watched BangShift’s live streaming coverage of events like the March Meet and California Hot Rod Reunion then you have seen Stormy Byrd’s awesome Blown Fuel Modified Roadster called Revelation. With a supercharged and supremely pissed off Chevy small block providing the power, this car does awesome burnouts and runs stout elapsed times way down in the single digits. One of the things we dig about both Stormy and the car is that they’re both pretty true to the nostalgia movement and as a matched pair, the driver and the car are perfect. Often you will see photos of Byrd during his burnout with the tires blazing throwing up the V sign that was so popular with racers decades ago. Fun stuff.
NitroAmerica’s Les Mayhew caught up with Byrd at the Eagle Field Drags in October and he shot this killer video at the event which depicts Byrd making a lap and (on purpose) smoking the tires from the hit of the throttle until he lifts at the end. You’ll notice that he lines up to the left of the groove and we’re guessing he may have juice the air pressure in the slicks up some, but when he drops the hammer it is smoke city and from the finish line camera angle you can see it making haze right up until the timing traps! We’ve showed lots of runs with old school or recreated twin engine cars running on rock hard recap slicks doing stuff like this, but Byrd is absolutely hauling ass at the top end of the course.
Les always does awesome work and this video is no exception. He uses multiple camera angles and cuts them all together to tell a fluid story and give the viewer the feeling that they are on the run. The major difference between a video like this of Byrd making a run that looks so awesome and natural and the total crap you see on television where a 10 second run takes 30 seconds is that Les understands the sport and uses that understanding to create a finished product that is really damned good.

Nostalgia “racing” showmanship boost. How about a single stage slipper clutch tire smoker class? Cars winning with inadequate tire smoke will be booed off the grounds and invited to stay home next year.
Bring it on, I’ll just turn the boost back up as I had the blower 1 to 1 and annihilate another set of tires.
We take the race tires on the Halibrand rims off and use the steel rims with used slicks so I dont have to constantly mount & dis-mount the Halibrand’s which were off of the Winged Express. Dont want to hurt those.
He LIKES it!
What Driveline rules would guarantee smokey runs?
check the mop being blown off the wall at 1.34
Right up there with an all-time GINCHIE.
yeah I like the mop too & I noticed the blue dot ’39 Ford tail lights – nice touch!!
BAD A$$! I want to do that! There is vid of Pure Hell from the same event that kills!
