Big Red is one of if not the single greatest road legal 1969 Camaro in history. Built by Dan and RJ Gottlieb and used to compete in dozens of different events, the car can run 220mph flat out during the Silver State Classic, clip 215mph at the Texas Mile, and haul the mail up a mountain during the Spectre Performance 341 Challenge. This car is pretty much the one that created the “Pro Touring” movement. Big Red is a living legend and now it is going to be the focal point of a pretty high budget documentary. There were planes and helicopters used to film lots of footage. Hell, there is in-car camera footage in this trailer that shows the car hauling along at 220MPH during the Silver State Classic. Yes we said TWO HUNDRED AND TWENTY MILES PER HOUR!
There’s nothing more for us to say that has not already been said about this car. We have lusted for it since the moment we laid eyes on it 20 years ago. It is BADDER ASSER now!

some cars transcend brand loyalty ,so what if its a camaro . from a ford guy this car is freakin awesome. everyone should get out there and drive their car balls to the wall like this.
FARRRRRRRRRRRKKK YEAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
I bleed Ford Blue but Big Red rules!!!!!!!!
Oh my…Brian, as Bangshifters, we owe you big time for bringing those amazing visuals of that car into our lives. Great find.
Thanks dude!
I lived in Palm Springs (Ca) in the late 80’s (RJ’s hometown) and it was not uncommon to see Big Red on the streets. I’ll never forget the beautiful sound that big block made.
There can be no doubt that it is a legend and while somebody may have built something that is faster here or therre, they did it first and its great to see it back in action and faster than ever. Can’t wait to see the feature.
More fun on four wheels than 99.9999% of vehicles out there. Nice!
I saw this car in California 20+ years ago. It was cutting edge then and even more so now. This car is so bad ass Im almost afraid to look at it!
The best article ever written on “Big Red” was the “Need for Speed” article in Hot Rod Magazine however many years ago. I still have that mag somewhere and every once in a while I dig it out of my collection so I can drool over Big Red. Hands down the baddest hot rod on the planet. There are very few hot rods that stand the test of time and “hammering on” for so long……………….bitchen!
Great that those guys just keep at it, funding and effort, Bonneville style, pretty rarely done at a high level. Hats off to those guys!
