Sticks and Stones Video: A Wheeling Trip Where Manual Transmissions Are Required Equipment!

Hitting the trails with a group of your friends is what off-roading is all about. The personalities, the fun, the different vehicles, the different approaches to building an off-road rig that works. Well, what about a trail ride that has a mechanical requirement. No, not lockers or 37″ tires minimum…a manual transmission! Centerforce clutches did this not too long ago and gathered an awesome group of customers to hit the trail and talk about the benefits of running a stick off road versus an automatic. Believe it or not the list is pretty interesting.

For starters you have the great benefit of engine braking that does not exist with a torque converter. This is really good stuff when you can stick the transmission in a low gear while crawling down stuff to keep the speed in the correct range. Then you have the reliability of a mechanical system that can save your bacon if something bad happens. Tear the pan off the transmission of your automatic equipped rig and you are dead in the water. Bash your manual trans hard, it will at least get you back to civilization. The list goes on and the topics are discussed in the video below.

Lots of neat rigs and people in this one. But the bottom line? A stick in your off-road rig isn’t just fun and cool, it is functional and with the right Centerforce clutch and flywheel combo, it’ll work wonders!
