Boost…it is addictive, it is fun, and normally, it’s a bit expensive to do. Superchargers can provide enough pressurized air to make the drive a lot of fun, and blower whine is always so very nice, but can you get away with “budget boost”? Freiburger, Brule and Dulcich are here to demonstrate that on a reasonable budget, you can crank out some decent figures with a lower-buck blower. The mill is the Ford-based 363ci V8 that powered the Raunchero, Roadkill’s Alaska-or-bust 1968 Ford Ranchero and the two blowers that will be tested are a Paxton Novi 1200 blow-through and a Weiand 177 Roots-type ‘charger. Using a Roadkill engine as a dyno mule for a supercharger test…and letting self-confessed Mopar guru Dulcich wrench on a Ford? Can good come out of this or will the Westech dyno room be filled with itty bitty scraps of Blue Oval everywhere?
Use the Paxton – just because it has the word Novi in the title. That pays tribute to those insanely powerful Indy monsters of the 1950s and 60s!
take the roots style anyday. easier to install and cooler looking than the other and turbo chargers.
