Crazy stuff happens when open wheel race cars get together. Two of the best guys in the business of driving said open wheel cars are Tony Kanaan and Helio Castroneves. They had a violent encounter during the IRL event in Baltimore recently that looked like something out of a movie.
Long story short, either the brakes failed or the throttle stuck open on Kanaan’s car and despite a damned good effort to avoid it, he literally drove right up the backside of Castroneves’s car and launched skyward, covering a pretty good chunk of the Baltimore street in the air. Luckily, both men walked away.
Watch it a couple times and you can clearly see Kanaan make a desperate move to avoid Castroneves. Obviously the effort was made in vain, but it shows the mark of true professional that he drove that car right up until the second it became a plane.
Press play and fly the friendly skies!
