The Words Of A Legend: Take A Listen To Jaguar’s Long-Term Test Driver Norman Dewis!

The Words Of A Legend: Take A Listen To Jaguar’s Long-Term Test Driver Norman Dewis!

The now 96 year old man who you will hear in this video is one of the most noteworthy test drivers ever employed. Few test drivers are even recognized, but there are a few names that rise to the top: Lamborghini had Valentino Balboni, for example. Dewis drove for Jaguar from 1952 to 1985. Thirty-three years is a fantastic shot for a test driver, but in Dewis’s case, it’s amazing he lived through it all to tell the tales. He drove Jaguars before and after the infamous 1955 LeMans crash. In fact, he drove in that fateful race, retiring out after 106 laps. He pushed a Jaguar XK120 to 172.412 on a motorway in Belgium for a production car speed record. He balled up the only Jaguar XJ13 made, and walked away unscathed. He was even awarded the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire as an officer for his contributions to the motor industry. The man has lived one hell of a life, and he’s still around to tell about his adventures. If that isn’t worth a bit of your time, nothing is. Click play below and let the man who lived through the wildness that was Jaguar tell you about the tasks at hand.

What an awesome man – and what an awesome taste in shirts!

Speed keeps you young as Our Norman at 96 seems even younger than me at 65! I hope my American brothers can gauge this man’s importance, dedication and courage. Combine this with his innate modesty and you have a true legend in his lifetime.

Thank you Mr. Dewis for helping to develop the most beautiful car ever built.
