So Tony Stewart’s broken leg has gotten all of the attention in the sprint car world this week but the guys at Lucas Oil aren’t taking that laying down. Nope, they found video of Robbie Wolfgang suffering a wreck that makes Stewart’s look like some sort of traffic jam fender bender. Wolfgang was racing in Knoxville, which is the epicenter of the spiritual sprint car world when he got out of shape and then out of sorts on the fast dirt track. Normally in a sprint car crash there’s a roll or an endo. This wreck has rolls, endos, and even a pirouette thrown in for good measure.
Watching the on-car camera is wild because you really get the sense of what it is like to be sitting in that maze of pipe as it flings itself in all different directions before thumping down with Wolfgang’s head inches from the dirt. He was fine and walked away. One thing we have to give Tony Stewart for this week was calling out the reporters who treated the wreck he had as some sort of wild occurrence. He told them that his crash was tame and it was compared to this one!
