Wretched Excess Video: A Triple Allison V-12 Powered Pulling Tractor

You’ve seen tractors with a bunch of blown Hemi engines powering the rear wheels. You may have ever seen one or two with radial aircraft engines, but this is a first for us. A European tractor named “Popeye” sports three blown Allison 1710 V-12 engines.

We’re guessing that these engines are from the latter end of the production for the venerable V-12 that powered thousands of aircraft during WWII and beyond. That means that they were rated at 2,800hp apiece at low altitude. Assuming that these engines haven’t been hot rodded (Yeah, RIGHT!) there’s nearly 9,000hp hanging off the front of this monster.

The 1710 stands for the number of cubic inches the engines measure out to. They have a 5.5in bore and a, get this, 6-inch stroke!

It is almost frightening to think about all the stuff that is going on mechanically when this tractor is pulling the sled. Imagine tuning this thing!
