Yes, These Guys Built A 1964 Ford Galaxie Baja Racer – It May Be The Coolest Thing Ever (Video)

Yes, These Guys Built A 1964 Ford Galaxie Baja Racer – It May Be The Coolest Thing Ever (Video)

You can stop rubbing your eyes. That isn’t a photo-shop job, a camera trick, or a ruse. That really is a 1964 Ford Galaxie Baja Racer competing in the  NORRA Mexican 1000 with a Dart 427ci Ford engine, big mondo tires, a fully custom suspension, roll cage, frame, and ingenious tire mounting system in the trunk. As we said in the title this could be the coolest thing ever. The “Triple Nickel” racing team is comprised of a group of friends, fabricators, and mechanics that we desperately want to drink beer with. These people are bat poop crazy in all the right ways. Why did they built a Galaxie? Who the hell cars. They built a Galaxie. This isn’t a “trar” in the sense of it being a car body slammed on a truck chassis. While it is certainly more truck-like than car like, it is a creation wholly of their own minds and hands. Sweet mother of mercy this is cool. If it is even possible, another thing that cranks up the cool-meter is the fact that it is a 2WD and not 4WD.

What makes the story even better is that the team plans of using this car to off road race (check that box off), drag race (waiting to be checked off), AND land speed race it at Bonneville (waiting to be checked off). All three of those things will NOT be done with it in Baja form. They plan on tailoring the car to all three of these different disciplines of racing when they take it to the different events. In our opinion they started with the hardest task first. Racing this thing for 1,000 miles down the Baja Peninsula over dirt, rocks, treacherous Mexican roads, and through dangerous territory in both the sense of the actual terrain and also some of the bad guys who inhabit it, we give them all the credit in the world.

Here’s the full spec sheet on the car from the Triple Nickel racing team page

Here’s a pair of videos showing the car in action slamming around during the 1,000 mile race down the Baja Peninsula. Look for more info on this car in the coming weeks because we’re going to harass the team until they talk to us. Until then, revel in the greatness of this –

  1. just saying

I remember getting the shit kicked out of me and my dad chasing the assailents across a feild. That day the dukes had enough and there were bad people on both sides of the line.

Very cool, but open up the wheel arches, increase the track by 6-8 inches and drop it by 3 or so and you’d have something that would corner!

Think I saw this at a local car show a few months back. One detail I remember was that it uses Toyota Land Cruiser lower control arms. It’s a fully bad ass car, gorgeous and beefy to the last details.

Anybody think it was going to tip over? Seemed really really top heavy to me. But I totally dug it. I wish I could have one too and some place to drive it.
