We’re not qualified to comment on the proper way to start a refurbished turbine engine hanging off the wing of a Boeing 737, but we do know wrong when we see it. For instance, it is wrong to have massive flames blow-torching a wing full of aviation fuel. No expertise required to form that opinion.
According to our tipster Bryan, this insane looking video is the result of the turbine being rebuilt and not test run before being bolted to the plane. This is “supposed” to happen because the engine is slathered in lubricants and preservatives after being rebuilt. All we’re seeing is the burn-off of that stuff.
We wonder how long this could go on before blowing that wing, and the entire plane, sky high. Scary stuff!
Thank for the tip Bryan!
