Best of 2020: Cleetus Takes Toast, The Camaro To The Skidpad At Summernats For The First Time!

Best of 2020: Cleetus Takes Toast, The Camaro To The Skidpad At Summernats For The First Time!

It’s a brassy move to go meet someone on their home turf with their own rules with the goal of showing up and showing off like you own the place. That’s why we had our eyebrows raised a little bit when Cleetus made mention of going to Australia, directly to Summernats, with his own car to go for broke with a car he brought. That’s not adventurous, that’s cocky. For years, the Aussies have made it known, with no unclear terms, that they rule their own roost and that anyone else who wanted to try had better be on perfect target in order to not leave the country laughed at. When we saw his weapon of choice, a third-gen Chevrolet Camaro with a good-sized big block under the hood and a big effing blower sticking out of it, we started to think that maybe, just maybe, he had a hope in hell. Big power plus third gen Camaro equals tire smoke, for sure. But then come the variables: the Camaro had to be crated and shipped off to Australia, the car had to be ready to go to the pad, the tune had to be right…you know, the usual things.

I’ll echo Garret’s request: watch the entire video here, not just the parts that involve the Camaro getting violent in the pit. Things happen that I won’t spoil for you, but since this was filmed, a company stepped up without request, parts are flying and we’re pretty sure that what went wrong has been rectified and that Toast is still putting on a hell of a show at Australia’s Home for the Automotive Manics.

Normally I don’t watch much Cleetus. This video might change some of that.

Kudos to Blueprint for helping a customer that admits they hurt the motor and kept pushing it to the limit and beyond. I can’t imagine myself every learning discipline to hold back in a burnout competition like that to ensure it lasts 60 seconds. I’ve done a 2 minute burnout, but no where near THAT hard in front of a full stadium of crazy fans among the best skid cars in the world.

His bucket list is spilling over for us to enjoy.

If I like the contents, I’ll was Cleetus. The videos of Summernats was good. It just fun watching these cars just mash the throttle for 60 seconds. Music to my ears at 7 grand!
