Both sides of the Social Circle, Georgia, drag strip debate met on January 26, 2010, for a so-called “work session” with the Planning and Zoning board. According to news reports, not much was accomplished, although some of the wild misinformation being spread by the anti-track group was debunked.
According to a story in The Walton Tribune, the crowd at the meeting was overwhelmingly against the track. The story did note that Donnie Clack, the man who wants to build the facility, told the group of track supporters to steer clear of the meeting. A smart move in our mind as it prevented a big confrontation that could have gotten ugly.
Among the complaints of concerned citizens was noise, with one man claiming that he could hear noise from a plant seven miles away from him home. With that level of super hearing we believe that the gentleman should be brought into the Department of Homeland Security as he could be a vital tool for fighting terrorism.
The biggest thing that came through at the meeting is the fact that the opposition has no hard data to back their claims of death, destruction, and the social decline caused by a drag strip. The board did say that it was incumbent on Clack to prove his points for them to allow the project, but they did note that the other side was lacking in actual, factual data.
Hope reigns supreme, and Donnie Clack is quickly becoming a personal hero of ours for not giving up on this race track.
