Watch Mike Maier Horse Wrangle His Awesome Mustang Around the Road Course at the 2011 Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational

Earlier today we showed you some crazy video of Bill Maier wrecking in spectacular fashion during a 1982 Trans Am event at Laguna Seca Raceway in California. As it turns out, those racing genes were passed throughout the generations of the Maier family and Mike, who may be Bill’s son (we think) is one hell of a wheel man himself. Mike Maier has competed in many different forms of racing from open wheel oval racing to SOLO, to road course action. In this video we see him really hauling the mail on the road course at the 2011 Optima Ultimate Street Car Challenge. His turbocharged 1966 Mustang is insane in both the acceleration department and the lateral grip department.

Maier is really working for a living in the driver’s seat of the Mustang as he whips around the course at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch in Nevada. He spends lots of time counter steering this little hellion of a car as it tries to swap ends about a dozen times when he is feeding the power to it our of the corners. It is neat to watch someone who is really good behind the wheel, especially in a car like this that takes a lot of talent to be fast in.

Out of 50 cars, Mike was 6th overall in the Hot Lap Challenge, against some of the best racers and drivers in the country!

Press play and watch magic happen behind the wheel!
