Normally when we’re talking about cars from Australia, we’re watching them spin donuts, blow the tires up, and wreck havoc in a power skid competition…not this time! In this video we’re at the drag strip and that blower is being put the use making horsepower to shove a classic EH Holden from the middle 1960s down a quarter mile strip in the depths of the nine second zone at more than 150-mph. The car is cooler than hell but went up even more notches when we noticed that it is a four door!
We did some digging and found out that these cars weighed about 2,400lbs from the factory, making them perfect race car fodder. This car has been highly modified, obviously. We don’t know what the engine combo, the transmission, or anything else to do with it, but frankly we know cool when we lay our eyes on such things. The factory stock body is great as is the immaculate black paint slathered on it. We chose this video to lead off the day today because we’re going to be pulling the wraps off of an old project car we were following that has not moved into a critical stage of its build and you can consider that car the bigger, hairier, crazier brother to this Holden.
As much as we can appreciate wild graphics and crazy paint jobs, there’s nothing cooler in our book than a factory bodied car with a stock paint job that absolutely hauls ass. This car is nicely finished and runs like the wind, looking damned fine while doing it. Given a stack of cash, we’d love to import one of these bodies to use in the build of a race car. No one would know what type of car that it was but they’d know the thing was bitchin’!

EH’s were massively popular when i was a lad – other side of the coin were local Falcons which looked similar to, but not the same as, US models. You probably know about the brand loyalty here in Aust but in the 70’s wearing a Ford (or Holden) jacket in the wrong place at the wrong time would put you in danger of getting your head kicked in…back in those days V8’s had really only just become available in the newest models so they were very expensive – we all had hotted up 6’s. EH’s and the like typically had 179, 186 or `big’ 202 cube 6’s, a cam and either multiple strombergs or if you were a bit exotic a bunch of SU’s. Webbers were the stuff of dreams and show cars… This particular EH is a street driven car, seen it a few times at shows..
Oh, just re-read your comment about importing one and how you’d need bigg bucks? Found you one…this car’s an EJ which is the previous model but virtually the same, partially restored, looks to be all there, $2,900. Its around 3k to import a US car to Australia so I assume it’d be similar going the other way – less than 6 K and you could have one….
Oh, and if you want to generally browse an excellent Aussie site to see what things cost, gumtree.com.au is brilliant!!!

It reminds me of the Rentaria Bros four door Valiant.
