We’ve Got The Massive List Of Cackle Cars For The 2013 CHRR – There’s 80 Of Them!

Holy smokes this is going to be amazing! We told you yesterday that we’re going to be live broadcasting the 2013 NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion from Bakersfield, California this weekend starting on Friday morning. Outside of the fuel altereds, front motor nostalgia top fuel dragsters, amazing sportsman action, 40+ nostalgia nitro burning funny cars, and exhibition machines, there’s the famed Cacklefest. What was started as a one time deal has grown into an entity all of its own and is replicated at events all across the country. The California Hot Rod Reunion is where the Cacklefest was born  years ago and that’s where the biggest and best one still takes place.  We were emailed a list of all the cars that are currently entered to participate this weekend and we almost hit the floor when we saw that there are just about 80 of them on the list. 80, like more than six dozen cars mostly burning nitro will be running at the same time, in the same place, on the same night. We don’t know what the record is or anything like that but we can tell you that all of Kern County will be enveloped in a haze of nitro fumes this Saturday night.

You have to remember that with a Cacklefest, it is not just about the cars. Look at the names of the people that will be at Famoso with these machines. Larry Dixon Sr, Garlits, Benny Osborn, Gary Cochran, Tommy Ivo, Jerry Ruth, Dwight Salisbury, John  Wiebe, Jeep Hampshire, and dozens more. We’re formulating a plan on how to best chase down as many of these legends as possible to get stories and memories from their years of racing for a living decades ago.

We’ll be LIVE on Friday morning and we won’t be stopping until the race is done on Sunday evening. Look through the list of Cacklefest cars below and see for yourself. This is going to be all time. Think about the fact that many of these men are into their 70s and some are older than that. There are fewer and fewer chances to see them at the track, let along sitting in the cars that they used to build their personal legends and careers. DO NOT MISS THIS! Thanks for the tip Bill!

I’m crossing my fingers I’ll be there…my 15yo boy just landed a gig crewing on Denver Shutz N-TF car…. Pete Kaiser is taking him under his wing.

First TF car I saw was “Kansas” John Wiebe in 1969 at Wichita KS International.I was 9. LOL.Left quite the impression on me.

What an impressive list of Drivers, I didn’t realize so many of those legends were still around!

The very first Cackle Fest had a total of just nine cars (one being the Greer, Black & Prudhomme car). And they did the push starts before the sun had fully set, so it was dusk, still light out. I was there. After the last car went quiet the crowd went freaking nuts!!! Every one thought it was the coolest dang thing we had ever seen. And you know what? It was! I’ve seen every one since that first one and it still rules. If you can’t be there for sure watch it on Bang Shift. But nothing beats seeing this specticle in person. This one looks like it might fill the entire 1320 with Cackle Cars…yes!

It feels like Brian is messing with us. What an IMPRESSIVE list. Can’t wait to see this. Only in California!!
